After receiving 8 years of medical education and specialty training in ophthalmology and eye surgery, this doctor questioned how else they could make a difference beyond treating patients in the hospital.

Inspired by mentors who did voluntary work with international NGOs and were enthusiastic about AI and technology in medicine, they pursued a PhD in med tech with a focus on AI's application in medicine. Through leveraging this tool, the doctor hopes to advance understanding of diseases, develop new treatments, and achieve precision medicine.

They believe that AI has the potential to make a bigger impact on human well-being, and their experiences doing voluntary work in rural areas in China, Chennai, India, the State of Israel and Palestine, and Thailand and Indonesia have deepened their commitment to helping more people in need as a doctor.
